365 Days of Impossible: Days 20-23 – Healthy Food Porn, Energy Ball Recipe, & What We Can Learn From Cops Reloaded

First things first, I want to thank God for directing me to knowledgeable people in the dietary realm that have far more expertise than pseudo workout herculeans on the boob tube. I want to thank Him for leading me to a dietary rebel who has been my inspiration and guiding light in my clean eating venture. It has given me the confidence to embark in the incredible journey while sustaining on this earth another day to allow myself to become a better and more effective vessel of His.

I’m very happy that God is breaking me free of my addiction to food in the way that I was – and I may always have that ingrained in my DNA – an incessant emotional eater. When I was happy, I’d indulge; when I was sad, I’d really indulge; when I was pissed off, I’d super-duper indulge. However, I have to say since really sticking to this pseudo Daniel’s Diet, my emotional eating has decreased rapidly. It could be that I’m a firm believer in non-GMO, organic, local foods as I have increasingly awesome energy levels, my body is shouting for joy at the new fuel I am giving it, but then again, it could be because I am putting more of a concentrated effort in honoring God with my body.

Who knew it could be this easy? Oh, wait….

In any event, I’m having fun trying new things with food and really challenging what I knew about food, nutrition, and health, and what God has known all along.

With that being said, don’t think it’s all rainbows and daffodils, because frankly, I still want a burger and all those “manly” staples, and I’m sure as hell am not going to deprive myself because I am sure other emotional eaters know what will result. It’s more about the 90/10 rule that I believe we should all adhere to (90% great foods and 10% not-so-great foods).

So, here is my food porn for the week:

This is a very simplistic salad with spinach, onion, mushroom, mozza, parsley, blackberries – it didn’t even need a dressing.

This is egg whites (cage free), spinach, mushrooms, garlic, fresh tomatoes – total YUM!

Finally an Energy Ball recipe I saw posted on Facebook, but I tweaked it to make it more healthy:

1/2 peanut butter (not your sugared Jif kind) or any fresh nut butter

1/3 cup local honey

1 cup oatmeal or steel-cut oats

1/2 cup mini chocolate chips – darker is better 🙂

1/2 cup flaxseed – I personally like hemp seed, too.

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix together and make balls.

On the original post, I noticed people were freaking out over calorie count, but there are meant to be used for a quick burst of energy, not eating all at once. With that being said, I made about 20 balls that came out to around 132 calories a piece….and trust me, one is all you need.

Finally, I watched this episode of Cops Reloaded and I laughed so hard at this guy doing Kung Fu. The police officers kept on hitting him with Pepper Spray, but he was NOT going down. It was NUTS! It literally took more than 6 cops to tackle the guy to arrest him.

Just watch:

Here is what we can learn from Kung Fu Master, even when we think we are being totally awesome in our daily lives and could even be applied to how we think we are glorifying God, we really aren’t. We’re being this misaligned individual to those around us, looking a fool, appearing to care more about our selfish wants, than doing what we should be doing.

And what should we be doing?

Even for those Sunday-only Christians, this applies: everything we say and do should point directly to Jesus Christ.

Everything.

While, that sounds good in theory, I think it’s more easily applicable than we realize.

Quit being a wild Kung Fu Master and begin to transform to be a joyous Kung Fu Master with a purpose.

God is GREAT and let us be GREAT for Him.
